Memorandum Reflection
I really enjoyed writing my first
memorandum, and the course learning objectives and other tips we learned in
class helped me significantly. Exemplifying the Microsoft memorandum, I kept in
mind how we highlighted the fact that memos should be short and precise. I
usually find it difficult to write shortly, so this was a challenge which I had
to overcome. After rounds of deleting several unnecessary words and information
as much as possible, I was finally satisfied with my memorandum and its
shortness. I found it easy to delete unnecessary words and sentences by
thinking, “If I am the reader, would I find this sentence helpful?” Also,
following the basic structure guidelines we discussed in class not only helped
me in shortening the length of my writing, it also helped me to address the
problem as well as providing a solution to the problem effectively.
Although the assignment description
stated that I can write about any topic of my interest, I found it useful to
write a memo with a real-life situation that I am facing currently. I found
this useful because it gave me more passion throughout the writing as the
thought of possibly sending the memo to the recipient made me work harder. As
discussed in class, I strongly believe that I, a science major, is also
responsible and capable of being a good writer. This I believe because first, I
do not want to make a similar mistake a Microsoft employer made, second, I
agree that our society will be a better place if the science majors expresses
their thoughts on politics and other areas by their writing.
